Rolls Royce Cars Photos and Desktop Wallpapers Page 3

A RollsRoyce car may refer to vehicles produced by: Rolls-Royce Limited (1906-1973), Rolls-Royce Motors (1973-2003), which was owned by Vickers between 1980 and 1998, and after that by Volkswagen. Since 2003 this company is called Bentley Motors Limited, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars (2003-present), a subsidiary of BMW. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is a BMW subsidiary, responsible for the Rolls-Royce automobiles since 1997. BMW and VW arrived at a solution. From 1998 to 2002 BMW would continue to supply engines for the cars and would allow use of the names, but this would cease on January 1, 2003. On that date, only BMW would be able to name cars "Rolls-Royce", and VW's former Rolls-Royce/Bentley division would build only cars called "Bentley". Rolls Royce's convertible, the Corniche, ceased production in 2002. 2003 Phantom Launched in January 2003 at Detroit's North American International Auto Show, this is the first model from Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited, a BMW subsidiary having no technical or corporate connection with the original Rolls-Royce company apart from the trademarks mentioned above. The car has a 6.75 L V12 engine from BMW, but most other components are unique to the car. Unlike the MINI (which is 90% engineered and manufactured in the UK) most parts are made in Germany, although the assembly and finishing is done in a new factory in Goodwood, Sussex. The cars are available in normal and extended wheelbase, and prices start at about £250,000.

General information:

Prototypes: Rolls-Royce 100EX, Rolls-Royce 101EX, Rolls-Royce RR4 2007 Phantom Drophead Coupé: 2007 - 2010 — Rolls Royce announced in September 2006 that it will develop a new 4-door model, using the next generation BMW 7 Series, positioned below the Phantom and with a price range between US$230,000 and US$330,000. It is also working to develop a production version of its 101EX concept. The Rolls-Royce Phantom is an ultra-luxury saloon automobile made by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, a BMW subsidiary, in the United Kingdom. It was launched in 2003 and is the first Rolls-Royce branded car made under the ownership of BMW.

Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé is the latest convertible made by Rolls-Royce which debuted at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan on January 7, 2007. The platform is based on the Rolls-Royce Phantom and has styling heavily derived from the 100EX concept car unveiled to celebrate the company's centennial in 2004. The Rolls-Royce 100 EX (EX stands for experimental model) has: 9.0 litre V16 engine, 6 Speed automatic transmission, Dimensions: Height 1561 mm (61.5 in), Width 1990 mm (78.3 in) and Length 5669 mm (223.2 in), The car was produced to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the meeting of businessman Charles Rolls and engineer Frederick Henry Royce. The figures speak for themselves but to get a better idea of the size of the car the solid silver Spirit of Ecstasy is seven feet (2.1 m) from the driver. The engine outputs are not stated by the company but the motoring press estimate about 700 bhp (520 kW) and 700 ft·lbf (950 Nm) of torque are close to the actual figures. Rolls-Royce originally said they wouldn't produce the car, but they've apparently changed their minds, the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé made its debut in January of 2007.

In 2006 the 101EX, a Grand Touring coupé prototype based on the 100EX, was presented at the Geneva International Auto Show. The 101EX shares its aluminium space frame chassis technology with the 2003 Phantom, albeit in a shortened version. The car is 9.5 inches (241 mm) shorter than the Phantom sedan, with a lower roofline and shallower glass area. Power comes from the Phantom's 6.75-litre V12 engine. The Rolls-Royce RR4 is a new, smaller ultra-luxury saloon automobile from Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited. The 'RR4' designation is only the internal codename for the car; the final production name for the car has yet to be revealed. The car will most probably be based on BMWs F01 platform that will also underpin the next generation 7 series. The platform itself is said to be flexible enough to allow the car to have a wheelbase, roof height, bonnet height and track widths all of its own. Other bits and pieces will also be shared with the BMW but will be packaged in a way that the owner would not notice this. The engine is rumored to be either a twin-turbo V8 or a V12 tuned to produce number below that of the Phantom.
